Well, its been a few months of nothing but toil on our contribution to the greater WordPress community. We love building stuff with WordPress and make our livings doing so (at Nickel Pro and at Likechapaa). However, building e-commerce sites with WordPress has always been a great difficulty for us. So what did we do? We built our own WordPress e-commerce plugin.
When we started building it, we had absolutely no plans of releasing it to the greater public but some people we talked to made us realise that there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by releasing to the WordPress world. We love our plugin and we naturally feel that it is the easiest and most ‘friendly’ such plugin in existence. I sincerely hope that you give it a try and that you grow to like it.
You can also view the demo that we prepared to showcase our labor of love.
Have a look at our list of features and our documentation for more.
Looks very promising, I will try it out on my next e-commerce site.
One question: I develop websites in Uganda; any change of adding Ugandan mobile payment gateways ?
Well, with DukaPress 1.3.2 you can now add Ugandan mobile payment gateways! try it π
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Please let us know your experiences with it when you try it out.
Adding Payment gateways is quite straightforward and we definitely can add those – it’s just that we don’t know anything about them. Some help?
Hi, I will try Dukapress on two of my sites. Is it possible to have Moneybookers as payment gateway?
http://www.moneybookers.com
Best Regards
Joergen
Hi Joergen,
We dont have Moneybookers yet but if you are comfortable with code, you can easily add it. I will be writing a post about how to add Payment gateway soon. π
Regards,
Parshwa
Hi, this is very good and easy to use, well done. I imported your test data, and added a product using your instructions. All is fine except that the images do not show, even though they are uploaded. Is this a CSS issue? (WordPress 3.0) Thanks!
Did you put the display product shortcode in the post? Could u let me see the site you’re workin on? Thanks for trying DukaPress!
Yes, each post has the [dpsc_display_product] inserted. Please look at http://shop.lingsync.net
Thanks!
I’m surfing on my phone right now so I’ll look at the site on a PC asap. One thing that I know is that it wont show properly if the ‘price’ custom field is not defined. But I can see you have that.
I’ve spent a while testing this and I cannot figure out what’s wrong. π For some WEIRD reason the products are not showing up when run through the WordPress importer. Please try set up just one additional product on your own (not through the importer) and, as if by magic, everything will start working. I’m not sure why this is so, but it works. Please let me know if you run into more problems.
Remember to clear your browser cache after creating the new product so that the older ones can show
I added a product myself, no luck. I added a simple post (not product) and the picture shows. Cache cleared. I tried in Chrome and still no pictures, but it gave me image placeholders, The link for those placeholders is http://shop.lingsync.net/wp-content/plugins/dukapress/lib/rt-timthumb.php?src=http://shop.lingsync.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/se-xperia-x10.jpg&w=50&h=63&zc=1
The error message it gives is:
Warning: usort() [function.usort]: The argument should be an array in /home/mahitan/public_html/shop/wp-content/plugins/dukapress/lib/rt-timthumb.php on line 322

Oh man! I’m not sure what causes that – never seen that one before. This may sound silly, but have you tried setting up (and saving) the basic shop settings from your admin area? A few times during testing that used to work as a fix for an array of things.
I just did a fresh install of WP 3.0 with the shop and it didn’t work. I tried it on a WAMP server and it worked fine. I then tried it on a LAMP server and it stopped working. Not only the pictures, but the checkout stalls on the machines where the pictures don’t appear. I am guessing therefore that it is a PHP compatibility problem
Hi Steve,
The errors on http://shop.lingsync.net/wp-content/plugins/dukapress/lib/rt-timthumb.php?src=http://shop.lingsync.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/se-xperia-x10.jpg&w=50&h=63&zc=1 are coming because there is no image at http://shop.lingsync.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/se-xperia-x10.jpg
Hi, what you couldn’t see was because I had stripped the installation and was in the middle of a fresh one. It still didn’t work on my hosted server, but it worked perfectly on my Windows A/M/P setup. There was still another problem with the payment gateway. So I have to remove your plugin, as the project I am working on needs my hosting server. If you want, I can make a demo on another sub -domain.
Thanks for your help
Hi Steve, I would really like to find out why its not working. It will be really great, if you can set up a demo server and provide me access.
Hi, you can now check it on http://duka.lingsync.net There are 3 areas; a) no pictures showing, b) when I added a new product, the price of the previous product changes to the same price of the new product, c) after pressing the Make Payment button, it goes nowhere
None of this happened when I used the WAMP server, ie it all worked fine.
hi, I solved the image problem by making the cache folder writable, fine. But I still have no functionality on my Make Payment button, and when I list posts (not in the grid format) then the 2nd item still has the same price as the first
Hi Steve, Can I have admin access to that demo server ? My email is parshwanemijain@gmail.com
@Steve There are images present in that post. Am I right ? The images should be inside the post as the post’s attachment.
Hi, I’m just now exploring WP / ECommerce and your plugin looks promising except I am wondering if you will (soon) be developing or I could hire you to develop a USPS shipping extension so the cart could auto calculate using the usps api?
Hi Harmony, You can hire me to develop USPS shipping extension for the cart. If you want, I can also do UPS and FedEx as well.
Hey there – good to know you could do the usps part – unfortunately the more I went through the set up I realized that this is a great product for the price (I would even have donated) but I need something that will be easier for my clients to use (i.e. form fieds for product options instead of having to do the |size||color| (which is easy for me but would not be easy for a retailer with little experience). I want to set something up like GetShopped.com – just a super easy WP/Shopping cart solution that I can sell to my customers that don’t need the more advanced Joomla!/Virtuemart system I currently sell. I don’t mind paying but I don’t like the way Get Shopped drives everyone back to their site for upgrades etc – I want what they have but more “white label”. I’ll keep an eye on Dukapress and try again as you get a little more developed.
Thanks for your honest review and opinion. I strongly urge you to keep an eye on us – this is just our 1.0 release and we can only get better. Good feedback like yours is what inspires us to continue making this thing beautiful. If you noticed, for the next version, we’ll be adding support for WordPress Multisites among other improvements. I believe you won’t be able to resist DukaPress at that time π
Thank you!
Sweet! I can hardly wait – how soon do you think that will be released? I have not launched my multi-site product yet so I may be able to hold off depending…. Also, for the USPS connection – can you send me a quote? That would be an important feature for us (and I’m sure others would purchase it too). Thanks again,
Harmony
Hmm, the next version incorporating WP Multisites and custom post types, and (much thanks to you for this one!) a better and more usable way to add/edit products should be available, for free, in a month or so.
Regarding USPS, I think Parshwa sent you a quote?
Hi, I didn’t get a quote yet – my email has been having issues though so it may have bounced?
Hi,
I set the Shop Mode to Inquiry Email Mode, however nothing seems to happen when I press the Inquiry button under the item in the grid.
By the way, how did you get the shopping cart to display in the side bar in the demo?
Website is here:
http://sofarsewgood.com
Hmmm, I believe that the problem will be solved once you add one of the display shopping cart widgets π
Thank you very much, I’m not sure how I missed those widgets when I went to look for them.
I am very grateful for your quality work and generosity. Where is the donation button?
Found it, on the download page.
Adam, we cannot thank you enough. We promise to do our best to make DukaPress the best it can ever be. Thank you!
Hi, thanks for the nice plugin! regarding the missing image … it is important to make the cache folder writeable otherwise timthumb won’t work. Maybe it should be added to the docs.
Hi peura, Thanks for pointing it out. π
Thanks so much for this! I’m adding this information to the docs asap.
Good one (plugin/support/)
Thanks! Have you tried it yet? What do you think?
hi
i am very impressed with the plugin but facing a little problem
i want to display my products on different pages in a tabular format.as u can see in the link
http://lablinkinstruments.com/?page_id=60
First column is product id so i want inquire button in front of every product id so that when i click inquire it sends me the product id as enquiry. or other details also if possible.
since products are in very large number or u can say one product has different classification and sizes. so need to display in the same format.
hope u can help me out with this.
examples for my requirement are
http://www.jsgw.com/beakers.html
http://www.scientific-labsglassware.com/burettes.html
Thanking you in anticipation
Kindly refer to this page i have designed the complete page and now if u can tell me how can i
put inquire button in with respect to all catalouge nos.
http://lablinkinsruments.com/?page_id=110
Is there a way to hide fields? Say I want to use this product for a catalog, I can’t find anything for catalog mode. So I could do what I need by hiding the add to cart and price fields.
Can be done easily via CSS! Just add .dpsc_grid_product_detail{display:none;} to dpsc-basic.css in the DukaPress CSS folder.
I did that, but it still shows the price and add to cart button on the product.
Is there a certian place where it needs to go?
I put it here at the bottom of the options.
.dpsc_grid_product p, .dpsc_grid_product .product_form input {margin: 0px!important;}
.dpsc_grid_product_detail{display:none;}
span.was {text-decoration: line-through;}
The one I gave you removes the add to cart and price on the grid view page.
Add both of these anywhere in the file to remove add to cart and price on both the single product pages and the grid view page:
.dpsc_grid_product_detail{display:none;}
.dpsc_content_container{display:none;}
Okay, that worked but now the description is gone also. Is there a way to leave that? & just remove the price, weight, & add to cart button?
Its just CSS, anything is possible :). The description on which, the single page, or the grid page?
On the single product view.
To help me better understand what you mean, let’s take this example:
http://dukapress.org/demo/products/softie-earings/
What would you say is the description here? Please take no offence – I just want to be able to be of better help.
Hi Kelvin, no offense taken! I really appreciate your help. This is what I would refer to as the description.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nullam tristique eleifend consectetur. Proin molestie ultricies vehicula. Suspendisse tempus pellentesque mi in commodo.
That body of text is actually something that we entered into the WordPress post editor just below the place where we put in the shortcode. So just type in your description below the shortcode for single product pages. π
Hi im a newbee and would like to know if there’s any way to remove the inquire button from grid view and keep it only on the product details page.
Try adding this: .dpsc_grid_product .product_form{display:none;} to dscp-basic.css in the CSS folder within DukaPress
it worked… thanks a lot, Dukapress Rocks!
Iβd love to see the site when youβre done! Also, if you have a minute, please rate us: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dukapress/ Thanks!
Thanks Kelvin, it worked as you described now!
