When “Add To Cart” Does Not Work

16

We’ve been getting reports of a really weird problem from some people. The problem is:

When you click “add to cart”, the cart widget is updated but as soon as you move to another page (or refresh the page) the items in the cart disappear.

Weird, eh? Also very painful because it is an isolated issue that affects on a few people.

How to fix this
This issue affects only some people on some webhosts. We do not have a full list of affected webhosts but here are two:

  1. ipage
  2. ipower

Please note that this is not to say that these webhosts are bad in any way.

The problem occurs because the session is not stored and therefore the data in the cart is lost upon refreshing or moving to a new page.

To fix this issue, you need to contact your webhost and ask them to enable session.save_path by editing the php.ini file.

Easy. 🙂

Hi – I asked my provider to make the update as you suggested and this was their reply. Should I continue to try and get this to work? Thanks!

Upon review, it does not appear you have a php.ini file in your hosting account. You will need to first create a php.ini file, which you can do so using a Plain Text editor. We are unable to provide specific information on creating a php.ini file, however, we would recommend searching your favorite search engine or you may find the following website helpful: http://www.php.net.

Hi, how do i put a link that would add “add to cart” with in page, and not just widget. Like buy it now button, where they click and go to check out. It seems the only way right now people can add an item is though the side panel window, which means on our sales page, we dont have check out button. How do we add that button? Thanks a lot.

I’m sorry but this is not there in the default DukaPress. But I think it is something that we should have. I’ll get working on it and it’ll probably be ready in the next release. Thanks for the idea.

hey there, im having trouble. I have done the above step and made a custom php.ini file which entails

    session.save_path = 1

the code tages oare not in the file, just some websites like to have them seperate.

WQhen i click add to cart, nothing happens. Even in the default WordPress theme. I am using wordpress 3.2

Add Dreamhost.com to the list – haven’t got it working yet.

    Re: Dreamhost.com
They don’t support this outa the gate. You have to update your site to Php 5.3, and then jump through some hoops. Agh! See below…

    Where the php.ini file located

    Please help..

    • Kelvin says:

It is NOT located within DukaPress; it is not a DukaPress file but has to do with your hosting. Please contact your web host as they are best placed to know.

    Hello,
I am having this problem too. The specific description:
whenever I add an item to the cart, it seems to load, but then nothing shows up in the Cart widget on the sidebar. I notice that it acutally updates something because of a weird change in the charset config on the widget, but it does not add the products. I have checked through phpinfo(); and it seems to be enabled, since it points to a specific directory within my service provider’s server.
have there been any further reports on this problem?

I had this issue (cart items not being saved when moving on to the checkout) and stressed over the above issue as my hosting provider is difficult to work with…then I read the post here (http://dukapress.org/forums/topic/add-to-cart-not-working-2/#post-3503) and this fixed the problem for me.
Worth a look (in admin settings for Duka -> Product Management -> Inventory -> Active (switch this to No)).

is there any way (widget or short code) to add:
    1.-The title of my product
    2.-The price
3.- and the add to cart button
under each product in my main page?

for example, in the BEIJI shop ( the live demo shop that you already have as example) is possible to put the add to cart button with the title and the price under every product?

please let me know, it would help me a lot!!
    thanks.
